Photogrammetry introductory course

Photogrammetry

This course establishes the technical, methodological and operational foundations required to capture high-quality data and accurately interpret the results.

The KoptR Image introduction to photogrammetry training is designed as a structured gateway into the world of photogrammetry applied to remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS). It is intended for drone pilots and professionals in geomatics, engineering, construction, environmental services or inspection who wish to understand how to plan, execute and analyze photogrammetric data capture in a rigorous and efficient manner.

Offered as a one-day public cohort, this training is entirely theoretical and supported by practical demonstrations conducted by the instructor using real-world cases and existing datasets. It enables participants to develop a comprehensive understanding of the photogrammetric process without requiring hands-on field work.

The course covers the fundamental principles of photogrammetry, including:

  • stereoscopy
  • image overlap
  • ground sampling distance (GSD)
  • data precision and accuracy
  • the main stages of a project, from mission planning to deliverable analysis
  • the parameters that influence data quality such as mission configuration, camera settings, environmental conditions and terrain characteristics

The training also addresses essential concepts related to GNSS systems, RTK and PPK workflows, the different types of photogrammetric outputs (orthomosaics, point clouds, digital terrain models, digital surface models and 3D models) as well as common limitations and sources of error. Demonstrations illustrate how these choices and constraints directly impact final data quality.

This course provides a solid foundation for anyone wishing to integrate photogrammetry into their professional activities or pursue more specialized training, including Pix4D programs. It is designed to develop the technical judgment required to assess project feasibility, understand produced results and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
